Gavin and Stacey alum Rob Brydon and Doctor Who‘s Michelle Gomez have been added to the ensemble of The Brink in a three-episode arc, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
From executive producers Jerry Weintraub (Behind the Candelabra), Jay Roach (Game Change, Recount) and Roberto Benabib (Weeds), The Brink is a dark comedy focusing on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three disparate and desperate men. Walter Larson (Tim Robbins), U.S. Secretary of State, Alex Talbot (Black), a lowly foreign service officer and Zeke Tilson (Pablo Schreiber), an ace Navy fighter pilot. These three compromised souls must pull through the chaos around them to save the planet from World War III.
Brydon and Gomez will play Martin and Vanessa, respectively, an intelligent, tight-knit and eccentric couple.
Benabib and his brother, Kim Benabib, will pen the script. Roberto Benabib, Weintraub and Roach will executive produce, with Kim Benabib and Susan Ekins getting co-EP credit. Roach is set to direct the pilot. Black and Robbins will be producers as well, with co-star Aasif Mandvi co-producing.
Other members of the cast include Maribeth Monroe, Geoff Pierson, Esai Morales, Jaimie Alexander, Bernard White, Carla Gugino, John Larroquette and Cass Bugge.
Brydon is repped by Mosaic and U.K.’s United Agents. Gomez is repped by Evolution Entertainment Partners, Independent Talent Group and Abrams Artists.
