LONDON – Pulitzer prize winning historian David Kennedy is among the expert voices contributing to World War II from Space, a program commissioned by History, the pay TV channel.
U.K. indie production banner October Films has made a two hour special detailing the story of America’s war from the vantage point of space for History.
The show is scheduled to premiere Dec. 7 on the pay TV channel.
Using a variety of VFX techniques, World War II from Space will present major moments from the war including Pearl Harbor, D-Day and Hiroshima in ways they have never been seen before.
In doing so, it brings all the visual conventions and imagery of modern war reporting to WWII.
The program makers aim to give viewers a fresh interpretation of the war.
Experts will also include Richard Overy, the author of How The Allies Won The War, Lt General Raymond V Mason, deputy chief of staff logistics, Patrick Porter and James Carafano.
October Films creative director Adam Bullmore said: “The way director Simon George has brought all this talent and ideas together to produce a stunning programme, is a remarkable achievement in visual storytelling.”
London and Mumbai based VFX house Prime Focus is partnering for the visual effects duties.
Julian P. Hobbs is executive producer for History while the show was devised and executive produced by Adam Bullmore and Matt Robins at October Films.
Simon George designed, wrote and directed it.
