Homecoming has found a home.
In a competitive situation, the podcast turned drama series starring Julia Roberts has landed at Amazon with a two-season pickup. The Universal Cable Productions project comes from Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, who will direct and executive produce the show.
Based on Gimlet Media’s fictional podcast of the same name, Homecoming — which on Wednesday launched its second season — is a psychological and political thriller that centers on a caseworker at a secret government facility (played by Roberts) and a soldier eager to rejoin civilian life. The podcast’s creators, Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg, will write the adaptation and executive produce with Chad Hamilton of Anonymous Content, Alicia Van Couvering, and Chris Giliberti, Alex Blumberg and Matt Lieber of Gimlet Media.
Amazon will have the international rights to the drama, which will debut all at once on Amazon Prime Video around the world. Homecoming marks the second high-profile series to nab a two-season order from Amazon as the streamer did the same for David O. Russell’s untitled mafia drama headlined by Robert De Niro and Julianne Moore.
