Julia Roberts’ Amazon drama Homecoming has found its leading man.
Shots Fired’s Stephan James has been tapped to star opposite the Oscar winner in the upcoming series, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Based on the popular fictional podcast of the same name, Homecoming is a psychological and political thriller that centers on a caseworker at a secret government facility (Roberts) and a returning soldier (James) eager to rejoin civilian life.
Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail is set to direct the pilot, with the podcast’s creators, Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg, attached to write the adaptation. They also will executive produce with Chad Hamilton of Anonymous Content; Alicia Van Couvering; and Chris Giliberti, Alex Blumberg and Matt Lieber of Gimlet Media, which produced the original Homecoming podcast.
Universal Cable Productions, where Esmail is under an overall deal, is producing the half-hour series.
After Roberts became attached to the series, Homecoming landed a two-season straight-to-series pickup at Amazon in July.
In addition to his leading role on the Fox limited series Shots Fired, James’ credits include Selma, When the Game Stands Tall and Degrassi: The Next Generation.
There is no premiere date yet for Homecoming.
