Saul (Mandy Patinkin) will likely have his hands full when Homeland returns for its third season Sept. 29.
The Showtime drama has upped two actors behind previously minor characters to series regulars, and both have ties to the acting director of the CIA. The Hollywood Reporter confirms that F. Murray Abraham and Sarita Choudhury have been bumped to regular status, respectively playing retired black ops agent Dar Adal and the estranged Mrs. Berenson, Mira. The news was first reported by HitFix.

Season two of the Fox 21-produced series, which saw much of the CIA blown up by the late Abu Nazir’s followers, left Adal functioning as something of a foil to Saul and Mira returning from India.
Showtime recently released a description of Homeland‘s third season, noting that it picks up in the immediate aftermath of the bombing at Vice President Walden’s funeral, calling Nick Brody (Damian Lewis) “the world’s most wanted terrorist.”
“As Carrie (Claire Danes) and Saul begin to pick up the pieces of their shattered professional and personal lives, they are swept up in the political and media firestorm surrounding the terror attack and the subsequent search for Brody’s whereabouts,” reads the logline.
Homeland starts filming its third season in June.
