Pro tip: Don’t bother asking Beau Willimon what he’s planning for season four of Netflix’s juggernaut drama House of Cards.
“I’m not going to say anything, even about what we’re exploring,” Willimon tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We have a smart audience and they already have ideas about what might happen in season four.”
What Willimon is wiling to reflect upon is three seasons of exploring one of the darkest and most unpredictable marriages depicted on television — that between newly minted POTUS Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and his spouse, Claire (Robin Wright).
“The shape that that marriage has taken, the ways it has evolved, it’s the centerpiece of the show,” says Willimon. “The scariest thing we can do with the story is, if these people got to the White House because of their mutual strength, what if they become each other’s greatest liability?”
For much more about House of Cards and how Willimon feels about President Obama streaming the show on Air Force One, watch the video above.
