Netflix dropped a thoroughly haunting trailer for season 4 of House of Cards during the Golden Globes on Sunday night.
“They say we get the leaders we deserve,” says Kevin Spacey as the ruthless Frank Underwood. “Well, here’s what I think America deserves: a leader who’s not afraid to look you in the eye and tell you what he believes. I believe in putting people first. I believe in putting America back on track, I believe in opening doors. And I’m willing to work with both sides so that we all get what we want.”
Yet while Underwood delivers his remarks calmly and confidently from the Oval Office, the trailer flashes back to the many deeds he committed over the past three seasons in order to get there, and puts a spin on the words he says about the future.
“I’m a humble man, I’ve never forgotten where I came from. I’ve taken my licks, but I’ve never taken your support for granted. I believe in pointing people in the right direction, but in the end, we should all be free to make our own decisions,” he continues. “They say we get the leaders we deserve. I think America deserves Frank Underwood. And in your heart, you know I’m right.”
Previously, Netflix released a teaser (packaged as a fake political ad) during another buzzy televised event: the GOP primary debate on CNN.
