Howard Gordon, Richard Price to Adapt ‘Inside Men’

Inside Men is getting another go.

Richard Price and Howard Gordon have inked a deal with Fox 21 to collaborate on a drama based on Tony Basgallop’s format for the BBC limited series from BBC Worldwide Productions. The project, which will be shopped to premium networks and top-tier basic cable ones by the year’s end, will count Price and Basgallop as writers and executive producers, with Gordon producing through his Teakwood Lane banner.

Like the original, the project will feature a multiple points-of-view look at a robbery, though the case as well as the scope will differ. “That was four hours, and this is hopefully something that will turn into 50 hours,” says Fox 21 president Bert Salke, who notes that the U.S. version will have more of a police element to it. “But it’s the same themes about how we find our voice in life, how we can rise above what the working man does to make his mark.”

The U.S. iteration originated awhile back with Gordon, who was passionate about the 2012 U.K. version and went after the rights on his own before bringing it to the studio. “We spent some time trying to figure out what the American translation was,” notes Salke, who suggests that he and Gordon “hit the jackpot” by landing Price.

Price is currently taking a pass at the pilot script, for which Basgallop wrote an initial draft. They will put together a bible, too, before making the network rounds. Teakwood Lane’s Hugh Fitzpatrick and the BBC’s Jane Tranter will be involved with the series as executive producers.

If ultimately ordered to series, Inside Men would join a rapidly expanding portfolio for Gordon, which includes Showtime’s Homeland, FX’s Tyrant, Fox’s 24 and TNT’s forthcoming Legends. For Price, whose other TV credits include Criminal Justice and The Wire, this accompanies his NYC crime drama, which is set up at Fox. The latter centers on a 20-something Wall Street portfolio manager who unwittingly becomes a pawn in the DA’s attempts to take down a criminal organization.

Price, whose wrote the screenplay for the upcoming feature Child 44, is repped by UTA; Basgallop is repped by UTA and Independent UK; and Gordon is repped by WME.
