Hulu is the latest streamer to get into the talk-variety game.
The streaming service has given a straight-to-series order to a weekly half-hour topical show from Sarah Silverman. Tentatively titled I Love You, America, the series will feature the comedienne discussing the current political and emotional landscape of the country.
The show will follow Silverman as she looks to connect with people who may not agree with her personal opinions through honesty, humor, genuine interest in others and not taking herself too seriously. She feels that now more than ever it’s crucial to connect with un-like-minded people.
Hulu has given the project, which hails from Funny or Die, a 10-episode order. Silverman, Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Amy Zvi will executive produce. The news comes a little more than a month after it was announced that Silverman would come out with a new Netflix standup special in May.
Silverman previously headlined her own primetime scripted series on Comedy Central, The Sarah Silverman Program. In addition to a standup special on HBO that won her an Emmy, Silverman most recently had an arc on the since-canceled Showtime drama Masters of Sex. She will be seen next on the big screen in The Book of Henry and Battle of the Sexes.
Silverman is repped by UTA, Thruline Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham.
