Hulu’s Shut Eye is adding a former Daily Show correspondent to its ranks.
Aasif Mandvi has booked a recurring role on the psychic drama starring Jeffrey Donovan.
Its plot revolves around a former fake psychic scammer (Donovan) who starts to experience visions that may or may not be real. Mandvi will play Pazhani “Paz” Kapoor, a man who grew up in the slums of Mumbai as the sole survivor of a cholera outbreak who found himself able to communicate with those who perished from the beyond. Now, he’s a spiritual healer with a worldwide following. After being banned in Germany and other European countries, Paz has come to L.A., where he plies his trade as a spiritual guru through his popular new-age seminars. Viewers first meet Paz through Dr. Nora White (Susan Misner) when she offers his guidance to Linda (KaDee Strickland) to help Charlie (Donovan) make sense of his visions. Charlie will learn there is more than meets the eye with the mysterious mystic.
Mandvi’s credits include a recurring role on TV Land’s Younger. He’s also developing TBS animated comedy Halal in the Family, based on the web series for which he earned a Peabody Award. He’s repped by ICM Partners, Sweet 180 and attorney Bruce Gellman.
The 10-episode sophomore season of Shut Eye, from showrunner John Shiban and Sony Pictures Television Studios, returns Dec. 6 on Hulu. Isabella Rossellini and Emmanuelle Chriqui co-star.
