Khalid will join Imagine Dragons to perform together for the first time during the fan-voted awards show. The 45th AMAs will mark Khalid’s first appearance on the show. He is nominated for favorite song in the soul/R&B category for his breakout hit “Location.”
Imagine Dragons made their first performance during the ceremony in 2013 with the songs “Demons” and “Radioactive.” The rock band returned the following year to perform “I Bet My Life.” Imagine Dragons won in the favorite alternative rock artist category in 2013 and 2014 and are also nominated in the same category this year, as well as for favorite duo/group in the pop/rock category.
Horan is set to perform the second single “Slow Hands” off of his debut solo album Flicker. The album, which was released in October, landed at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
Horan made his debut performance at the AMAs as a member of One Direction in 2013 with the song “Story of My Life.” The group returned the following year to perform “Night Changes” and again in 2015 with a performance of “Perfect.” The boy band won a total of seven AMAs over their career, including artist of the year in 2014 and 2015.
In 2016, Horan took the AMAs stage for the first time as a solo artist to perform the ballad “This Town.” He is currently nominated in the new artist of the year category.
It was previously announced that Diana Ross will make a rare performance and will be honored with the AMA for lifetime achievement. Christina Aguilera is also set to perform a tribute to Whitney Houston with songs from The Bodyguard in honor of the film’s 25th anniversary, and others set to take the stage include Selena Gomez, BTS, Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato and P!nk.
Nominations for the this year’s AMAs were announced last month. Bruno Mars has the most with eight noms; Kendrick Lamar, Ed Sheeran, Drake, The Chainsmokers and The Weeknd each earned five.
It was also announced Friday that AJ Gibson, Marc Malkin, Laura Marano and Oliver Trevena will host a red-carpet preshow sponsored by Security Benefit. The two-hour live stream will begin at 6 p.m. ET and can be watched on Twitter through the AMAs’ official account.
ABC will broadcast the fan-voted awards show live on Sunday, Nov. 19, at 8 p.m. ET from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
