Ioan Gruffudd will star in the lead role of Daniel Harrow in the eponymously titled 10-part Australian drama, Harrow, being made by Disney’s ABC Studios International and Hoodlum Entertainment.
Harrow is the first drama from ABC Studios International and sees Gruffudd reunite with Disney/ABC after starring in the popular but short-lived Forever for ABC Television. The Welsh actor is perhaps best known for his role as the swashbuckling titular character in ITV’s Horatio Hornblower.
Gruffudd plays brilliant and unorthodox forensic pathologist Dr. Daniel Harrow, whose total disregard for authority and his unfailing empathy for the dead help him solve even the most bizarre of cases, in the drama that’s been created by Secrets & Lies scribe Stephen M. Irwin and producer Leigh McGrath.
Keli Lee, managing director of international content and talent for ABC Studios International, added: “In Ioan Gruffudd, we have found the ideal star to play Dr. Daniel Harrow. Ioan is an incredibly talented and globally acclaimed actor, and he brings a complex mix of genius, darkness, humor and charm to the role”.
Gruffudd will also be seen later this year in the ITV/Sundance TV miniseries Liar, starring opposite Joanne Froggatt, and feature The Professor and the Madman, starring Sean Penn and Mel Gibson, produced by Fastnet Films and Icon Film Distribution. Gruffudd is represented by ICM Partners, Framework Entertainment and Nelson Davis.
The Australian Broadcasting Corp. has signed on as the local broadcaster of Harrow and Disney Media Distribution will license international rights. Production get underway in August in Queensland, Australia.
