‘This Is Us’ Elevates Duo to Co-Showrunners for Season 2

NBC and 20th Century Fox Television’s This Is Us is rewarding two key family members.

Writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger have signed a new overall deal with producers 20th Century Fox Television, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Under the multiyear pact, the duo have been promoted to co-showrunners alongside creator Dan Fogelman on the previously announced second season of the breakout family drama. The duo will focus on This Is Us for the time being and, as part of the new pact, will put their new take on a How I Met Your Mother spinoff on the back burner. (A network has not yet been attached to the project.)

This Is Us is Aptaker and Berger’s latest collaboration with Fogelman. The trio previously teamed on ABC’s The Neighbors as well as Fox’s Grandfathered. Their credits also include Jason Katims‘ About a Boy reboot for NBC as well as the feature Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. They are repped by Verve, Management 360 and Hansen Jacobson.

This Is Us ranks as the No. 1 new series of the year. The NBC family ensemble, starring Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore and Sterling K. Brown, has two episodes left in its freshman season and has already been renewed through season three.
