Enrico Colantoni has landed a recurring role on iZombie, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Colantoni, who played private eye (and Veronica’s dad) Keith Mars on Rob Thomas’ cult series, will take on the recurring role of Lou Benedetto, a vice detective whose cases overlap with Liv’s (Rose McIver) personal and professional life. He begins filming this week and will appear in episodes 14 and 17.
The actor is not the first Veronica Mars alum to stop by Thomas’ series about zombies living in Seattle. Star Kristen Bell is doing voiceover work for an upcoming episode, while Percy Daggs III, Ryan Hansen, Daran Norris and Adam Rose have all made guest appearances. Thomas even tried to book Jason Dohring for an arc in season two, until he landed a recurring role on The Originals.
“I had emailed Jason Dohring earlier this year saying, ‘Hey man, I’m going to find something great for you, a cool storyline,’ ” Thomas previously told THR. “That was certainly my intention until he booked his gig on The Originals, so that went by the wayside. We had to cast someone else in that role unfortunately, but it would have been great to have him on the show. There are many people from Veronica Mars and Party Down that I hope to get on the show.”
Colantoni also appeared on Thomas’ Veronica Mars spinoff, Play It Again, Dick, and the 2014 Veronica Mars movie which Thomas co-wrote and directed. Colantoni’s other credits include Person of Interest, Flashpoint and Just Shoot Me! He is repped by Innovative Artists, Vanguard Management Group and Hall Webber.
iZombie returns Tuesday, Jan. 12 at 9 p.m. on The CW.
