Ah, the adventure bug has hit movie star Jake Gyllenhaal. He’ll be joining host Bear Grylls to kick off six new episodes of Man Vs. Wild Mondays on Discovery beginning with Gyllenhaal’s episode on July 11 at 9 p.m.
The actor will spend two days with the adventurer in Iceland doing whatever and going wherever Grylls does. “For me, it’s all about discovery,” says Gyllenhaal.
In other cable news, VH1 is capitalizing on the success of its reality series Basketball Wives with Basketball Wives: Los Angeles featuring Lakers and other area teams’ girlfriends and wives premiering August 29.
The cast includes Kimsha Artest (wife of Ron Artest, Los Angeles Lakers), Gloria Govan (fiancée of Matt Barnes, Los Angeles Lakers), Laura Govan (sister of Gloria Govan) and Jackie Christie (wife of Doug Christie, former player for the Los Angeles Clippers) and Imani Showalter (ex-fiance of Stephen Jackson, Charlotte Bobcats) as well as others.
The network also announced it has picked up the reality matchmaking show, Siggy Flicker, about a New York City matchmaker, her business, and clients premiering October 16. It will follow two clients every week as Siggy gives them dating and etiquette tips, then sets them up.
Also, Spike TV announced Monday that it has picked up its reality show, Auction Hunters, for a 26-episode order for Season 3. The network’s highest rated non-scripted series will return in early 2012 with a first-ever live episode.
