Wolk, who has recently guest starred on Showtime’s Shameless and ABC’s Happy Endings, will play one of Elaine’s sons, Doug, also serving as her chief of staff.
Berlanti will write and direct the pilot, in addition to executive producing with Mark. Melissa Kellner Berman will co-executive produce.
Animals comes from Berlanti Productions and Laurence Mark Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television.
Wolk, repped by WME, headlined the ABC pilot Georgetown last year, also set in the nation’s capital. He co-stars in the big-screen comedy For a Good Time, Call, opposite Ari Graynor.
