Following a lengthy dealmaking process, the Oscar winner will star in and executive produce a comedy series called Dad Stop Embarrassing Me at the streamer. The show is inspired by Foxx’s relationship with his daughter, Corinne, who will produce.
Bentley Kyle Evans, who worked with Foxx on the actor’s self-titled WB sitcom in the 1990s, will serve as showrunner. Modern Family and Black-ish veteran Ken Whittingham will direct every episode.
Dad Stop Embarrassing Me will be Foxx’s first regular role on a scripted TV series since The Jamie Foxx Show ended in 2001. He also hosts and executive produces Fox’s game show Beat Shazam and starred in the first installment of ABC’s Live in Front of a Studio Audience, playing George Jefferson in re-created episodes of All in the Family and The Jeffersons.
The series order comes on the heels of Foxx starring in Netflix’s feature Project Power, which premiered Aug. 14 on the streamer. His recent credits also include Just Mercy, the 2018 Robin Hood and Baby Driver.
The cast also includes Foxx’s former In Living Color co-star David Alan Grier, Kyla-Drew, Porscha Coleman and Jonathan Kite. Heather Hemmens and Valente Rodriguez will recur.
Jamie Foxx and Evans executive produce the series, with Corinne Foxx and Alex Avant producing.
Jamie Foxx is repped by CAA, LBI Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham. Corinne Foxx is repped by CAA, LBI Entertainment and Morris Yorn.
