Jane Lynch is going back in time.
The Emmy winner is set to guest-star in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, the period dramedy from Gilmore Girls duo Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino.
The hourlong stars Rachel Brosnahan (House of Cards) as Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a 1958 New York City woman who has everything she’s ever wanted — the perfect husband, two kids and an elegant Upper West Side apartment. But her perfect life suddenly takes an unexpected turn and Midge discovers a previously unknown talent — one that changes her life forever. She subsequently storms the world of stand-up comedy … a decision that will ultimately lead her to a spot on Johnny Carson’s couch.
Lynch will portray Sophie Lennon, the most famous female comic of her time, who plays sold-out shows and has been a popular fixture on radio and TV for years.
In addition to Brosnahan, the cast also includes Alex Borstein, Tony Shalhoub, Marin Hinkle and Michael Zegen. Behind the scenes, Dhana Gilbert also exec produces with the Palladinos.
After premiering as a pilot on Amazon in March, the project received a rare two-season order just a month later. There is no premiere date yet for the series.
Since her breakout turn on Glee, Lynch has enjoyed guest-star roles on The Good Fight and Criminal Minds in addition to her dramatic turn as Janet Reno in the Discovery mini Manhunt: Unabomber. Her feature film credits include Wreck-It Ralph, The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Best in Show.
She is repped by Domain Talent and Hansen Jacobson.
