Jane Pauley, former host of the Today Show, is hosting two special programming events to mark the 50th birthday of the youngest members of the post-World War II “baby boomer” generation.
RLTV, a cable network which targets viewers over 50, is collaborating on two shows with the AARP, both of which will be hosted by Pauley. The first is documentary Boomers 2.0: A Generation Re-Imagined, which airs Jan. 31, and the other is public forum Rethink 50+ Town Hall, airing Feb. 7. Both programs are meant to highlight the unprecedented influence of the boomer demographic.
“We’ve teamed up with AARP to create these compelling programs to share with our viewers, distributors and advertisers the fascinating insights that we have acquired about the future of the boomer generation, “ says Paul FitzPatrick, RLTV president and CEO, “which will continue to be as relevant and vibrant as ever for the next 30 years.”
“Boomers control 75 percent of the wealth in this country, and it is clear that this discerning age group intends to redefine aging, keep spending money and doing interesting and fulfilling things for many years to come,” added FitzPatrick.
Among those appearing in the documentary — that centers on boomer advancement in aspects of new technology, health care, fitness, retirement plans and more — are: AARP Foundation president Jo Ann Jenkins, NBC Research president Alan Wurtzel, MIT Age Lab’s Joe Coughlin and BoomAgers founder Peter Hubbell.
Pauley will also preside over the town hall meeting, where a discussion by two panels of industry leaders will address content and marketing issues. Among the panelists are BBDO New York managing director Kirsten Flanik, CBS chief research officer David Poltrack, former TV One executive Jonathan Rodgers and film and theater critic Jeffrey Lyons.
Boomers 2.0 is produced for RLTV by NBCUniversal’s Peacock Productions. Rethink 50+ is produced by Jay Garfinkel and filmed at ABC’s Time Square Studios.
