Jimmy Kimmel addressed the many remakes currently on TV during Thursday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
“Will & Grace is a hit for NBC. ABC recently brought Roseanne back and from what I’m told that’s going great,” the host joked. His comments also follow the recent announcement that an ALF reboot is in the works.
Kimmel then addressed the recently rumored Frasier reboot. “Frasier Crane isn’t the only TV doctor from the ’90s who deserves a new life. I have another one in mind who I think would be really perfect for another run on CBS right now,” he said sharing a spoof of a show he hopes gets rebooted.
The show Kimmel hopes to bring back is Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, which ran on CBS from 1993 to 1998. The Western drama series starred Jane Seymour as Dr. Michaela Quinn, a physician in 1867.
The spoof, titled Dr. Quinn, Medicinal Marijuana Woman, opens with 67-year-old Seymour explaining, “I was a pioneer. The first woman doctor in the Colorado territory.” Clips show that the reboot would take place in the same Western setting as the original series. “Now I’ve found a higher calling and trails are about to get blazed.”
Quinn is next seen at a consultation, where she gives a patient medicine that is the “best in the West.” She then pours a bag full of joints onto the table and lists the variety of marijuana she can prescribe. After handing over a few joints to the patient, she says, “That’s really great s—t!”
The spoof concludes with Quinn smoking. “My eyes are two different colors,” she says as she holds up a joint and breaks into laughter. A CBS announcer states that episodes of Dr. Quinn, Medicinal Marijuana Doctor will be followed by a new episode of Hash Bridges.
