Jay Leno Returns to ‘Tonight Show’ to Deliver Monologue

Jay Leno was back to skewering current events at the top of the Tonight Show.

Leno returned for a special appearance on Tuesday’s episode of his old show to deliver part of the opening monologue. He subbed in for current host Jimmy Fallon, who faked an injury and claimed to need someone to take his place.

Leno wasted no time using his material to poke fun at the 2016 presidential race. 

“After that last debate, Marco Rubio is being called the best communicator in the Republican party, which is kind of like being the smartest Kardashian,” Leno joked.

Leno’s jokes also took aim at Barack Obama, Osama bin Laden and the economy, with Fallon rejoining him to fire off a few jokes of his own about the nation’s financial situation.

“The economy is so bad in California, in Beverly Hills parents are being forced to raise their own children — that never happens!” Leno cracked.

His final episode as host of the venerable NBC late-night show aired in February 2014, with Fallon taking the reins later that month.

Leno’s new show, Jay Leno’s Garage, debuts Wednesday at 10 p.m. on CNBC.
