Jeff Lemire’s graphic novel Essex County is headed to television.
First Generation Films has optioned the comic book for TV treatment, with Aaron Martin (Killjoys) to write the pilot script and showrun the scripted series now in development with Canada’s CBC network. Ted Adams, Chris Staros, Christina Piovesan, Lemire and Martin will executive produce the adaptation.
The scripted series is based on the Essex County graphic novel trilogy from publisher Top Shelf Productions, and follows the genealogy of a family across generations. Julie Di Cresce, vp scripted programming at First Generation Films, will oversee the project for the Toronto-based producer.
Lemire, who is currently writing Marvel Entertainment’s The Extraordinary X-Men, is also seeing his graphic novel series Descender adapted into a movie by Sony Pictures. Lemire’s DC credits include Green Arrow, Justice League Dark and Animal Man.
