MTV has renewed Jersey Shore for another season.

Despite sagging ratings during its fifth season, the cable network said Monday that it has given the reality series another crack at causing mayhem at The Shore. Production begins in Seaside Heights, N.J., this summer. All the cast members will return for season six.
Although ratings had been steadily decreasing this season, MTV is comfortable with its standing as the No. 1 cable series for the 12-34 demo this year, and it’s still the No. 1 series on the network. The season averaged a 7.4 rating with that demo and 7.9 million total viewers per episode. That’s a slight increase over its Italy season, which averaged 7.6 million.

Clearly, the network is banking on the viewer interest in how it will handle Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi’s pregnancy and engagement. She and castmate Jenni “JWoww” Farley are working on a spinoff, and DJ Pauly Delvechio’s spinoff series, The Pauly D Project, premieres March 29. Will the dynamic in the house change?
Jersey Shore is executive produced by SallyAnn Salsano from 495 Productions. Jacquelyn French is executive producer for MTV with Janay Dutton as the executive in charge of production for MTV. The concept was created by Anthony Beltempo.
