The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Biel has signed on to guest in an upcoming episode of the Fox comedy — playing an obstacle in Jess’ (Deschanel) mission to get lucky at a wedding.

The expanding loft gang — Damon Wayans Jr. is a regular this season — gathers for the last big event of wedding season and ups the ante by challenging one another to see who can get some at the nuptials. Newly single Jess sets her sights on a cute guest, only to have to vie for his attention with Kat (Biel). The character is described as “the hottest scientist in the world.”
Best known for her film work of late, Biel is no stranger to TV. She starred on the first seven seasons of 7th Heaven. She next appears in the movie Shiva and May.
On the New Girl front, the story sounds in line with what creator Liz Meriwether told reporters earlier this week when talking about the decision to break up Jess and Nick (Jake Johnson).
“I love them together and I don’t think it’s it for them at all,” she said. “I’ve never been in a good relationship … I just found that it’s been easier for me to write them as single idiots out in the world trying to get laid and looking for love. I had trouble figuring out where the conflict and comedy was coming from with them last season. Admittedly, it’s definitely fun to keep them apart for more.”
New Girl returns Sept. 16.
