Fox is adding another culinary competition to its schedule — one that also has mystery and comedy elements.
Joel McHale will serve as host of the show, which carries the less-than-appetizing title of Crime Scene Kitchen. The competition will feature two-person baking teams who have to decipher and re-create a dessert from crumbs, trails of flour and other small clues left around the kitchen, with a $100,000 prize at stake. It’s set to premiere May 26, following the season finale of The Masked Singer, and run through the summer.
“Crime Scene Kitchen is unlike any cooking show out there,” said Rob Wade, president alternative entertainment and specials at Fox. “It’s a truly original format with amazing baking creations, a brilliant play-along guessing game for the whole family, and Joel at the center of it all bringing hilarity at every turn. Just don’t watch it if you’re feeling hungry.”
Chef Curtis Stone and cake artist Yolanda Gampp will serve as judges for the show, which is produced by Fox Alternative Entertainment and Fly on the Wall Entertainment (Big Brother).
“I’m deeply excited to be partnering with Fox and Fly on the Wall to host Crime Scene Kitchen,” said McHale. “Hosting a show where bakers try to figure out and then duplicate a dessert from just crumbs, crusty whisks and a soiled electric mixer seems like a lot of fun and reminds me of college. Can’t wait. I’ve already picked out my apron. It’s leather.”
McHale also hosts ABC’s Card Sharks, which coincidentally will also air Wednesday nights in the summer (starting June 9). Crime Scene Kitchen and Card Sharks will air in consecutive hours in primetime, at 9 and 10 p.m. ET/PT.
Conrad Green executive produces Crime Scene Kitchen with Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan of Fly on the Wall Entertainment and McHale.
