Jon C. Zimmer, the father of United Talent Agency CEO Jeremy Zimmer and a producer on the 1960s NBC sitcom My Mother the Car, died Sunday in Fayetteville, Ark. He was 84.
Zimmer served as an assistant producer on My Mother the Car, which was created by Allan Burns (The Mary Tyler Moore Show). The series lasted just 30 episodes, airing from September 1965 through April 1966.
The show starred Jerry Van Dyke as an attorney who buys a 1928 used car and discovers it’s the reincarnation of his mother, Gladys. Ann Sothern provided the voice of the Porter Touring Car, which was built for the show.
Earlier, Zimmer wrote a 1960 episode of Leave It to Beaver.
