Jon Stewart is taking both Fox News and MSNBC to task.
On Wednesday’s Daily Show, he criticized Fox News for saying President Barack Obama doesn’t do enough to help lower-income families. Stewart showed a clip of the network’s Stuart Varney remarking that the main problem with impoverished people is that they lack a “richness of spirit.”
Stewart then impersonated Varney as if he were a not-yet-reformed Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol: “If you see a boy on crutches, push him down. He’s not crippled — he’s crippled at heart! He lacks a richness of legs-ness.”
Stewart followed that by showing a clip of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, in which the show’s hosts questioned Obama’s claim that Fox News anchors have used the words “leeches,” “sponges” and “lazy” to describe poor people.
“Well, I guess it’s time for our favorite game show: Did you even try to research this?” lamented Stewart about MSNBC before airing footage of Fox News stars using each of those very words.
