As Joseph Gordon-Levitt prepares to launch HitRecord on TV!, he has turned to the medium that started it all — the Internet.
The actor released the first episode of the short film series Jan. 6, available on YouTube, iTunes, Amazon and Hulu ahead of its Jan. 18 premiere on Pivot.
Entitled “RE: The Number One,” the inaugural installment of the half-hour variety show was collaboratively made on hitRECord.org, first beginning with a text record in which user “roswellgray” contributed her recollection of the first time she ever saw the stars when she was 16 years old. Gordon-Levitt adapted the story into a script and users “KatSmash,” “12.42” and “megancarnes” aided in the production. Elle Fanning and James Patrick Stuart appear in the film, along with 426 contributing artists.
“I’m deeply proud of this show, and I think you’re realllllly gonna like it,” says Gordon-Levitt with the upload. “Honestly, making this thing together with all the artists from around the world in our hitRECord community has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life so far.” The episode has already collected more than 430,000 views on YouTube.
Gordon-Levitt announced the early release via his social media accounts.
