HBO is expanding its relationship with Judd Apatow.
The Girls exec producer is set to direct and executive produce Crashing, a single-camera comedy pilot starring Pete Holmes, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The semi-autobiographical comedy stars former TBS late-night host Holmes as a sweet, wholesome comedian who stays on the couches of New York’s finest comedians after his wife leaves him.
In addition to starring, Holmes will exec produce alongside Apatow and Holmes’ manager, Dave Rath. The comedy will begin production in November and marks the first pilot directing job for Apatow.
Crashing marks the latest collaboration for Apatow and Holmes. The Girls exec producer has guest starred on Holmes’ podcast, You Made It Weird, and also did a bit for his former TBS late-night show in which he pitched the Trainwreck producer a movie based on the story of his divorce. For HBO, Crashing marks the premium cable network’s latest comedy pilot. It joins half-hours from Sarah Silverman, Issa Rae and Whitney Cummings as well as web-to-TV entry The Gorburger Show.
