Judd Apatow shared a strange conversation between Seth Rogen and Tom Cruise while visiting The Late Show on Monday.
“Just cause it’s Mission: Impossible weekend, I did once have a meeting with Tom Cruise. He’s a very, very nice man,” said Apatow. “I got asked to meet him. He was potentially looking to do not an action movie, a romantic comedy.”
The producer said that the meeting was at the same time he was shooting Knocked Up with Rogen. “I said to Seth Rogen, ‘I have a meeting with Tom Cruise. You have to come with me,'” he recalled. “And no one knew who Seth was. He wasn’t famous so he was just a dude with me and so I said, ‘Someone needs to witness this.'”
“So we’re talking to him, and I don’t know how it came up, but it usually comes up with Seth where he’s talking about marijuana and pornography,” he said. “And he starts talking about watching adult films on the Internet and Tom Cruise goes, ‘What? Wait, you’re saying there’s adult films on the Internet?'” Apatow’s impression of Cruise includes him using a slightly higher pitched voice.
“And Seth’s like, ‘Yeah, there’s all these movies on these websites,'” Apatow said with a gruff impression. “And Tom Cruise’s like, ‘Wait a second. You’re saying if I go on the computer, on the world wide web, there are people having sex?'” Apatow then switched to his Rogen impression, “‘Yeah, I watch it all the time. It’s great. Everybody does it. It’s not a big deal anymore.”
“So anyway no movie was made,” concluded Apatow.
Host Stephen Colbert responded, “That’s the movie I want to see. Tom Cruise discovering Internet porn.”
“I don’t think he was for it,” said Apatow. “He was being very polite, but I think…I assume he was against it and being polite, but who knows. We’ll never know.”
Apatow added that Cruise runs very fast. “He runs with such intensity,” replied Colbert. After the producer asked how Colbert runs, the host walked across the stage before showing off his run and then climbed over his desk to get back into his chair. “I do my own stunts,” he joked.
Colbert then told Apatow that it was his turn to run. He untucked his shirt and unbuttoned his collar before vigorously running to the opposite side of the stage.
