Amazon released a first look at Julia Roberts’ series Homecoming on Friday at Comic-Con 2018.
Roberts — who is playing her first regular role on a series — stars in the 10-episode show as Heidi Bergman, a case worker at a facility that helps veterans transition back to civilian life. However, four years after leaving the Homecoming Center, a Defense Department auditor (Shea Whigham) shows up to ask why she left, pulling a thread that will unravel the story she’s been telling herself.
The teaser doesn’t give up a whole lot of information, showing images of what looks like an office building, a bedroom and a kitchen with a large supply of pineapple before zooming in on Roberts’ character with a notepad. “Shall we get started?” she asks someone off-camera.
Homecoming is based on the narrative podcast of the same name. It also stars Stephan James as a soldier at the center, Bobby Cannavale as Heidi’s ambitious supervisor and Sissy Spacek as her mother, along with Jeremy Allen White, Alex Karpovsky and Dermot Mulroney.
The podcast’s creators, Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg, are adapting the show; Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail directed the pilot. All three are executive producers, along with Roberts, Chad Hamilton, Alicia Van Couvering, Chris Giliberti, Alex Blumberg and Matt Lieber. It’s scheduled to premiere Nov. 2 on Amazon Prime.
