Shameless’ Justin Chatwin is adding another cable project to his résumé.
The actor, who returned to the Showtime dramedy last season, has nabbed the starring role in TNT’s drama pilot Breed, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Breed centers on a string of brutal murders in the Pacific Northwest and the mysterious race of creatures who may be committing them. Despite his own mental instability, a gifted detective named Cooper Wells (Chatwin) embarks on the case, employing his expertise on serial killers. But when the perpetrators start to reveal barbaric tendencies of an inhuman nature, Wells is forced to enlist the help of a powerful and alluring female assassin to track them.
Wells is further described as a boyish but vaguely damaged star FBI agent who was recently let go from the bureau after claiming to see a criminal turn into a monster in front of his eyes. Recovering from his nervous breakdown and eager to work his way back up, Cooper accepts a low-key position on the Tacoma Police Force, hoping desperately for a major case. The one he finds is stranger and more horrific than he could imagine: The killers behind a brutal series of murders are revealed to be a savage race of monster-like creatures that need to be stalked and hunted — and Cooper will have to align himself with an aggressive, highly specialized assassin named Ruby to catch them.
John Scott Shepherd (Save Me) will pen the pilot and executive produce alongside Invention Film Co. and Nicky Weinstock. Scott Winant (True Blood, Fargo) will direct the pilot.
Chatwin recently wrapped feature Urge opposite Pierce Brosnan and will likely return to the Showtime dramedy this season. He’s currently filming a recurring role on BBC America’s cult favorite Orphan Black. He’s repped by UTA, Alchemy Entertainment and Sloane Offer.
