Kate Bosworth and Michael Polish are set to take a modern-day western drama series out to potential buyers — after completing principal photography on the show during the coronavirus pandemic.
The couple, via their Make Pictures Productions, are executive producers of a show titled Bring on the Dancing Horses. Bosworth stars, and Polish wrote and directed the 10-episode drama. Cast and crew stayed in a quarantine bubble during filming in Montana, adhering to COVID-19 safety protocols.
The show was privately financed and took the relatively rare step of filming all 10 episodes before lining up a buyer. Bring on the Dancing Horses tells the story of a hitwoman (Bosworth) who is out to complete her list of targets and exact her own brand of justice.
“I have been conceptualizing this original series for some time. I realized that there was an opportunity to stay creative and productive during a time of uncertainty,” said Polish. “Innovation is born in a time of restraint, and this series depicts the feeling of creativity in a way that has never been done or seen before. To be able to put a cast, crew and network of talented people to work and produce an elevated series, during what may have been a period of stillness, is a privilege.”
Said Bosworth, “We rarely get to see such a strong female lead in this genre. I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to create and collaborate on such a dynamic character. We are proud to have brought our talented crew together and to have completed the entire series safely and without sacrificing quality. Now we are excited to bring the series to market and introduce this character to audiences around the world.”
The series was filmed using 6K cameras, which Bosworth said will be easily adaptable to different formats around the world: “We believe this is the future for quality of content across streaming services in international territories as well as domestic.”
Bosworth most recently starred in the Polish-directed Force of Nature and Netflix’s The I-Land. Other recent TV work includes National Geographic’s The Long Road Home and Crackle’s The Art of More.
Bring on the Dancing Horses will be Polish’s first TV series. The Twin Falls Idaho and Northfork helmer is coming off Force of Nature and the documentary feature Little Brother of War. He and Bosworth founded Make Pictures in 2017.
