Apple’s drama Truth Be Told is getting some additional star power for its second season.
Kate Hudson has joined the series, which stars Octavia Spencer as a reporter turned podcaster who investigates crimes. Production on the second season is set to begin Oct. 26.
In season two, Hudson will play Micah Keith, a lifestyle guru and friend of Spencer’s Poppy Parnell. A new case comes to deeply involve both women and puts their relationship to the test.
Truth Be Told was originally ordered as a limited series but was renewed for a second season after performing well as one of Apple’s first wave of original shows (though the tech company doesn’t release viewing figures for its TV+ streaming platform). Season one was based on Kathleen Barber’s novel Are You Sleeping, but the second season will move away from the source material.
The role in Truth Be Told will be Hudson’s first extended series work since she did an arc on Glee in 2012-13. The Almost Famous Oscar nominee’s recent credits include Marshall, Deepwater Horizon and Mother’s Day. She is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.
Truth Be Told is produced by Hello Sunshine, Chernin Entertainment and Endeavor Content. Showrunner Nichelle Tramble Spellman executive produces with Spencer; Hello Sunshine’s Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter; Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping; and Mikkel Norgaard.
