Renowned for her English-language impressions, Kate McKinnon showed off her foreign-language skills on The Tonight Show on Wednesday, when she rapped a few verses of the Hungarian song “Jozsefvaros” by Animal Cannibals.
“Hungarian is the second-most difficult language for native speakers of English to pick up, so I studied every day so hard for three months, and at the end I could not order at a restaurant,” McKinnon joked.
Instead, she picked up one version of the rap song, named after the Budapest neighborhood Jozsefvaros, from her driver in the country. McKinnon then proceeded to perform the song, singing one verse and leading The Tonight Show‘s audience in the refrain.
During her appearance, McKinnon also revealed the birthday present she received from fellow SNL castmember Leslie Jones. “We like to go on adventures. Our most recent was to the Met. … We found a friend who we did a lot of bits about who had an upturned ‘codpiece,'” McKinnon joked. “So for my birthday, she sent me a picture of it in a Tiffany frame.”
Fallon showed a picture of the gift, which showed a photo of a suit of armor in a silver frame engraved with the words “Knight of the Protected Penis.”
Fallon, a former SNL castmember, then recalled collaborating with McKinnon on a recent star-studded cold open to the show. In the sketch, which depicted a scene at the Trump White House, Fallon played White House senior adviser Jared Kushner and McKinnon played Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani.
“Lorne [Michaels] is always poo-pooing impression ideas because he says we don’t look enough like the person,” she said of the Giuliani impression. “This was his idea. I was like, ‘What are you saying to me?'”
