Saturday Night Live star Kate McKinnon confirmed that she has both a fake and real laugh, and revealed what she finds funny while visiting NBC’s Today show Wednesday (Aug. 1).
While discussing her The Spy Who Dumped Me co-star Mila Kunis, host Hoda Kotb told McKinnon that Kunis “totally outed” the comedian while visiting the show Tuesday.
“What did I do?” McKinnon asked before Kotb shared a clip of Kunis explaining that [McKinnon] has a real laugh and a fake laugh. “I can’t reenact it, but there’s two laughs,” revealed Kunis. “One’s a genuine laugh and one’s like, ‘I’m laughing because I’m supposed to.'”
After laughing at the clip, McKinnon clarified that she was really laughing. “You did it! Congratulations,” she said before giving Kotb a high five. “Good morning.”
Kotb then asked McKinnon what makes her laugh. After pushing up her nose to show the audience her nostrils, she responded, “Mostly this. Like, I think that if you do this to your nose and just stay like that, that’s one of the funniest things.”
The SNL star explained that her cat also makes her laugh. “So my cat has these two — every cat has two top teeth — but mine only has one, so his lip gets caught on his bottom tooth,” she said as she pushed up her lip to give a visual of what her cat looks like. “So often I’ll just look over at him, and he’s looking at me like this and he looks so angry and, God, it makes me laugh. Every time I look at him I laugh.”

Kotb also asked McKinnon what her favorite impression she’s done on SNL is. “Right now I like to do the attorney general, Jeff Sessions,” she said. “There’s this thing that I can do with my mouth that actually Mila thinks is the grossest thing,” She then showed the facial expression to Kotb.
“The whole summer, if she looked away, I would do this and then she would look back and go, ‘Oh!'” McKinnon said, before impersonating Kunis screeching. “She hated it. Oh, my God, she hated it.”
The comedian said that it did not take long for her to perfect the impression, though it has improved with time. “Things happen so quickly, but then it happens over a period of episodes,” she said.
