Kathy Griffin has officially been named the new host of Fashion Police.
The comedian will replace the late Joan Rivers — who passed away on Sept. 4 — when the show returns next year.
“I get it! These are some big shoes I’m going to fill. Joan was truly one of a kind,” said Griffin in a statement. “Now I hope you will accept me for me. I’m just Kathy. Did I say I’m just Kathy? I meant I’m Kathy F—ing Griffin and you celebrities better strap yourself in, as I am taking no prisoners. I am not holding back so DAMMIT let’s have some fun!”
“Not only was Joan a trailblazer, she was also a dear friend and mentor to Kathy, who will no doubt continue her legacy and do the series justice by bringing her own unique comedic style and tell-it-like-it-is personality to the host chair,” said Jeff Olde, E! executive vice president, programming and development.
News of Griffin’s appointment was not entirely a surprise. Griffin told The Hollywood Reporter on Oct. 5 that she was in talks with E! about taking over as host of the show.
“I want to do a great job if I do it, obviously,” Griffin said at the time. “I can tell you that I hope they continue the tradition of my good friend and have someone lead the show with a fearless brand of comedy.”
Fashion Police is set to return in time for the Golden Globe awards on Jan. 12, 2015.
