The actress has signed on to reprise her role as Jackie Kennedy in The Kennedys: After Camelot, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
After Camelot comes after Kennedys picked up 10 Emmy nominations, taking home wins for lead actor Barry Pepper, among others. The miniseries recorded a record 1.9 million total viewers in April 2011 after landing at Reelz when the History Channel scrapped the effort. Reelz first announced it was developing the four-hour mini in November 2012.
Holmes, who starred as Jackie Kennedy in The Kennedys, will reprise her role in the new mini and also direct one of the four episodes in addition to executive producing. 24‘s Jon Cassar, who directed all eight episodes of The Kennedys, will direct the other three.
Reelz is reteaming with Kennedys producer Muse Entertainment Enterprises for After Camelot, which is based on the book of the same name by J. Randy Taraborrelli. Muse will handle production and international distribution. Stephen Kronish will return to pen the adaptation. Intuition Productions’ Keri Selig, who brought the project to Reelz, will also serve as an executive producer.
Joel Surnow, who produced the original, is not involved. The rare Hollywood conservative previously told THR that he thought his political views were to blame for History pulling the plug on the controversial miniseries.
After Camelot becomes the latest of Taraborrelli’s 13 New York Times best-sellers to receive the Hollywood treatment. His Jackie, Ethel, Joan — Women of Camelot book was developed into a miniseries at NBC starring Jill Hennessey as Jackie Kennedy and Lauren Holly as Ethel Kennedy.

For Holmes, After Camelot arrives as the Dawson’s Creek alum has been pursuing a return to TV. The project will mark her TV directing debut and comes a month after she signed on to make her feature directorial debut with All We Had. On the TV side, she recently starred in ABC’s Richard LaGravenese drama pilot. Her name continues to be in the mix for other broadcast dramas in the works. She’s repped by ICM Partners, Untitled and Sloane Offer.
Production on After Camelot is slated to begin in the spring in Canada for a 2016 premiere on Reelz.
“Katie elegantly portrayed Jackie Kennedy in the first miniseries and now will continue the role as Jackie grows into the Jackie O that the world knows best,” Reelz CEO Stan E. Hubbard said. “Katie is brave, committed and perfect for this role. She is a strong, talented woman who understands how special and respected Jackie Kennedy, and then Jackie Onassis was, as an international icon.”
