It was his mother -- a homemaker and voracious reader -- who inspired Williamson, 48, to become a writer. She bought him a typewriter when he was 10. But it was John Carpenter's 1978 classic Halloween that inspired him to become a filmmaker.

Kevin Williamson is adding stalkers to his TV repertoire.
The creator of The Following has earned a pilot order at CBS for an untitled drama set in the world of stalkers, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The psychological thriller centers on a pair of detectives who handle stalking incidents for the Threat Management Unit of the LAPD.
Williamson will pen the script and executive produce the drama via his Warner Bros. Television-based Outerbanks Entertainment banner.
STORY: TV Pilots 2014: The Complete Guide
The drama arrives as Fox’s serial killer drama The Following — which explores the world of cults — returned last week for its second season with season highs in its special post-NFC Championship Game slot. In its return slot, the sophomore drama starring Kevin Bacon notched a series low Monday night with a 2.0 in the demo — half of its football-boosted season-two bow.
Should the CBS drama move forward, it would give Williamson three series on the air and also join The CW’s The Vampire Diaries, which he still executive produces.
The Williamson vehicle was a late-season sell for Warner Bros. TV, earning a pilot production commitment at the network a week ago.
The Williamson drama marks CBS’ third drama pilot order this season. It joins the female secretary of state drama Madam Secretary and NCIS: New Orleans, a two-hour backdoor pilot spinoff from the network’s top drama NCIS.
Williamson is repped by WME and Felker Toczek.
