Amazon Studios continues to ramp up its stable of producers.
Game of Thrones Emmy winner Bryan Cogman has signed an overall deal with the retail giant and streamer. Under the pact, Cogman will create and develop new TV projects for the streamer’s global audience.
“We’re proud to be in business with Bryan, who has written some of the most memorable and exhilarating television in recent history,” said Albert Cheng, co-head of TV at Amazon Studios. “His storytelling prowess is undeniable, and we cannot wait to introduce his voice to our Prime Video audience.”
Cogman has been a key member of the Game of Thrones team. After starting as an assistant to creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, Cogman was promoted to co-producer and penned many of the show’s key episodes. He is currently working on several projects. On the feature side, Cogman penned Disney’s upcoming The Sword in the Stone remake and The Haunted Mansion.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled and honored to start the next phase of my career with Amazon. I’m grateful for the opportunity and excited to start writing,” said Cogman, who was part of the writing staff recognized when Game of Thrones took home two Primetime Emmys for best drama.
Cogman also was developing one of the five Game of Thrones prequels for HBO. The fate of that script remains to be determined. (The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to HBO for comment and will update this story when and if details about it become available.) The deal comes as production on Game of Thrones‘ final season is currently underway. All the scripts have been completed.
Cogman joins a roster of producers at Amazon that includes Nicole Kidman, Jordan Peele, Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), Amy Sherman-Palladino (Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Jill Soloway (Transparent) and more. He arrives at Amazon amid an arms race for behind-the-screens talent after Netflix signed Shonda Rhimes and Ryan Murphy to nine-figure exclusive deals.
