Kimberley Wells, a screenwriter and PR executive and the wife of veteran Hollywood Reporter film reviewer Michael Rechtshaffen, died May 5 of brain cancer at her home in Los Angeles. She was 56.
A longtime member of the Writers Guild of America, Wells wrote for such TV shows as Kate & Allie; Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman; Beverly Hills, 90210; Diagnosis Murder; the 2007 Lifetime thriller Post Mortem; and many other productions. She shared a Daytime Emmy nomination in 1994 for her work on Lamb Chop’s Play-Along.
In 2005, Wells launched her own PR firm, Uncommon Communications, where she consulted on projects including the 2008 launch of Discovery cable channel Planet Green, film festivals and numerous film and TV projects.
A native of Brockville, Ontario, Wells as a child moved with her family to the U.S. and was raised in Orange County.
She attended UCLA and joined Rogers & Cowan as a publicist, rising to senior vp before embarking on her screenwriting career.
In addition to Rechtshaffen, her husband of 18 years, Wells is survived by their 6-year-old son, Nicky; her brother, Michael Wells; and her father, G.R. Wells.
There are no funeral arrangements, but the family plans a gathering this summer to celebrate her life.
