SYDNEY — Kinetic Content has picked up the U.S. rights to Seven Network Australia’s top rating cooking format, My Kitchen Rules, the distributor’s CEO, Chris Coelen announced at MIPTV.
The competitive format, which pits 12 pairs of amateur cooks against each other in a dinner party situation in their own homes, before heading into a professional kitchen for the final rounds, and hosted and judged by a pair of celebrity chefs, is the No. 1 Australian network’s leading program of the year to date, with the 2012 series rating 20 percent above last years series.
The third season final aired last week to over 3 million viewers nationally with a 65 percent share, and the program regularly posts a 40 percent share of total people viewing. In 2012 MKR aired five night a week.
Those audiences are in line with Shine and Network Ten’s cooking juggernaut Masterchef.
My Kitchen Rules, commissioned for a fourth season next year, is a Seven Network developed format and is produced in house.
Kinetic’s Coelen said: “Very rarely does a new format so quickly rocket to and sustain such massive success, and My Kitchen Rules has taken Australia by storm. It is a universal format that we believe will be embraced in the U.S., and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to work with Seven Network Television on this prized brand.”
