Riverdale actor KJ Apa appeared Friday night on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he spoke briefly about the passing of Luke Perry, who played his father on the CW show. Since Perry’s death, Apa has been private about the loss of his colleague and co-star.
“He did everything he could to make everyone, no matter how big or small you were, feel comfortable and welcome,” Apa said of Perry, adding, “It’s hard to put into words how that makes me feel.”
Apa went on to describe how Perry maintained a close relationship with the actor’s family: “He would call my parents every week and give them an update on how I was going. He and my dad were close.”
Apa added, “I hope I can be like that,” to which Fallon replied, “You can be like that. You are like that.”
Following Perry’s death on March 4, Apa posted a photo of him on Instagram along with the caption, “Rest in love, bro.”
As Fallon pressed him on details about the upcoming episodes of Riverdale and what might be in store for his character Archie Andrews, Apa simply said, “We’re gearing up to some pretty intense stuff. There’s one last fight of the season. It’s between me and Mark Consuelos.”
Earlier this year, Riverdale was renewed for a fourth season.
