Kyle Richards has revealed that she and her daughter have tested positive for COVID-19.
News of the reality star and her 20-year-old daughter, Sophia Umansky, contracting the virus comes amid filming on the 11th season of Bravo’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Bravo has halted production on the season because of positive COVID test results, a network rep confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
“Some of you may have heard I have COVID,” Richards, who has starred on RHOBH since its launch in 2010, wrote over the weekend on Instagram. She shared the news along with a holiday photo of her family, who also appear on the series: husband Mauricio Umansky and daughters Farrah, Alexia, Sophia and Portia. “I got it after these photos were taken. Since I was diagnosed I have been separated from my family in order to keep them healthy. Unfortunately, Sophia also got it. We will stay in isolation until it’s safe to see the family and others again. I can’t wait to hug them.”
The Evolution Media-produced NBCUniversal reality series, which films in and around Beverly Hills, comes amid a COVID-19 surge in the local area. On Sunday, a regional state stay-at-home order went into effect for Southern California and San Joaquin Valley amid rising cases and hospitalizations.
The 11th season of RHOBH features Richards along with returning stars Dorit Kemsley, Lisa Rinna, Erika Girardi, Garcelle Beauvais, and Sutton Stracke. New recurring cast members include Richards’ sister, Kathy Hilton, and Crystal Kung Minkoff.
Last week, Beauvais said that a few people on the RHOBH crew had also tested positive for the virus, and that the cast members were in the middle of a 14-day quarantine.
“We’ve done the right thing, we get tested so many times,” she said on talk show The Real, which she co-hosts, of the COVID-19 safety protocols in place while filming. “We do all the protocols. We get tested at least three times a week. We get tested before we shoot. My kids get tested. I get tested — anybody who’s in my household. And you know, we did the right things. But at the same time, it just shows you that this virus, you can touch something. It’s not necessarily just from people.”
