Netflix continues to refine its approach to scripted.
The streaming giant has opted to cancel Maria Bamford comedy Lady Dynamite after two seasons.
The series, inspired by Bamford’s life and from creators Pam Brady and Mitch Hurwitz (Arrested Development), wrapped its second season Nov. 10. Bamford starred alongside Ana Gasteyer.
The decision to cancel Lady Dynamite — produced in-house at Netflix — comes after the streaming giant decided to wrap Judd Apatow-produced comedy Love with its forthcoming third season. Netflix, which is expected to spend another $8 billion on scripted originals this year, also recently canceled Haters Back Off, Girlboss, Marco Polo, Bloodline, The Get Down, Gypsy and more in the past year-plus as it narrows its approach.
The streamer, like Amazon and Hulu, does not release viewership information. Lady Dynamite had an impressive 97 percent average critical score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 81 percent rating among viewers.
