After nearly four months with the Dallas Mavericks, Lamar Odom is leaving the team on amicable terms.
“The Mavericks and I have mutually agreed that it’s in the best interest of both parties for me to step away from the team,” he said Monday in a statement to ESPN.
“I’m sorry that things didn’t work out better for both of us, but I wish the Mavs’ organization, my teammates and Dallas fans nothing but continued success in the defense of their championship,” he said.

Odom, whose personal life is reality-TV fodder as Khloe Kardashian‘s husband in her family’s E! franchise, was traded from the L.A. Lakers to the Mavericks in December, forcing the couple to relocate to an unfamiliar city away from the Kardashian clan.
According to ESPN, he will exit the team immediately and be listed as “inactive” for the remainder of the season; rather than letting him go, they could decide to trade him once the season is over. Any team that lists Odom on its lineup on June 29 has two options: buy him out for $2.4 million, or incur the full $8.2 million that he’s slated to earn through 2013.
Kardashian, meanwhile, did not directly mention the news as of Monday afternoon on Twitter. In a coy tweet, she wrote: “Never a dull moment. (She also tweeted a link to the launch of Kardashian Kollection’s line of home decor.)
