One night after telling Jon Stewart how much he loved 19 Kids and Counting, Larry Wilmore has changed his tune.
Wilmore tackled Josh Duggar‘s molestation scandal on Wednesday night’s episode of The Nightly Show, focusing on the perceived hypocrisy of the conservative clan’s situation.
“You mean to tell me the family that goes around saying gay and trans people are pedophiles preying on America’s young people actually has a pedophile that preyed on America’s young people?” Wilmore wondered out loud. “I hate pedophiles, but I love irony.”
He later noted that it’s “ironic” that advertisers are “pulling out” of the TLC show since “pulling out goes against everything Duggars believe in.”
Wilmore joked that something like this was bound to happen with such a large brood and used a classic nursery rhyme to illustrate his point.
“There was an old woman who lived in a shoe. She had so many children, it was a statistical probability that at least one of them was a creepy sexual pervert,” he said. “When you have a sample size this large, you’re going to have a few clinkers.”
To drive it home, Wilmore proposed that only 17 of Baskin-Robbins’ 31 ice-cream flavors are good, and Josh Duggar is the pink-bubblegum flavor.
Wilmore concluded with a video of Duggar speaking in his former position as the executive director of conservative group FRC Action. “Every single child deserves a mother and a father,” said Duggar in the clip.
“No, Josh, every single child deserves to be safe from dangerous hypocrites like you,” said Wilmore to loud applause from his audience. “Thank God someone finally did some research on this family.”
