Troublemaker, actress Leah Remini’s exposé of her life as a Scientologist, is off to a strong start after officially going on sale on Nov. 3.
Buoyed by a carefully orchestrated rollout that included a high-profile interview on 20/20 and a cover story in People, the book is the No. 3 best-selling title on Amazon. It also ranks as one of the 20 biggest gainers of the day, as it climbed the charts from No. 7 over the last 24 hours. Over at BarnesandNoble.com, the other major online book retailer, Troublemaker is slightly lower, sitting at No. 5.
An employee at Hollywood-favorite bookseller Book Soup said there was “low interest” in preorders and asks about the book in the lead-up to publication, but given the publicity and the fact the book was just released, it was too early to make a definitive judgment.
Among the revelations leaked from the book were details of the Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes relationship, Remini’s financial commitment to the religion, which included a $1 million donation, and her time as a teenager in Scientology’s elite Sea Org.
Unless the publisher releases numbers, initial BookScan sales figures will be available in a week. Best-seller lists also lag sales by about a week.
