The streamer has picked up The Playbook: A Coach’s Rules for Life, which will profile several championship-winning coaches through in-depth interviews as they share the rules they live by to achieve success in sports and in life. Subjects for the show, which premieres Sept. 22, include Los Angeles Clippers coach Doc Rivers; World Cup-winning former U.S. Women’s National Team coach Jill Ellis; José Mourinho, the well-traveled soccer manager whose teams have won three Premier League titles; tennis great Serena Williams’ coach, Patrick Mouratoglou; and hall of fame basketball player and University of South Carolina women’s coach Dawn Staley.
James and Maverick Carter’s SpringHill Company is producing the show, its first nonfiction project for Netflix. SpringHill also produced limited series Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker. THe company has also had projects at HBO, Showtime, NBC and Quibi and recently signed an overall deal with ABC Studios for scripted TV projects.
The Playbook comes from SpringHill Company, Delirio Films and Boardwalk Pictures. James, Carter, Jamal Henderson and Philip Byron of SpringHill executive produce with Delirio Films’ Christopher Leggett, Rafael Marmor and Josh Greenbaum and Boardwalk Pictures’ Andrew Fried, John Henion, Dane Lillegard and Jordan Wynn. The series is directed by Sarah Feeley, Josh Greenbaum, John Henion and Alexandria Stapleton.
