‘Lethal Weapon’ Creator Renews Warner Bros. TV Overall Deal (Exclusive)

Matt Miller is staying put at Warner Bros. Television.  

The creator of Fox’s Lethal Weapon reboot has inked what sources say is a new three-year, eight-figure overall deal that will keep him with the indie studio he has called home since 2007.

Miller is currently the executive producer and showrunner on Lethal Weapon, which is set to return to Fox in the fall for its rebooted third season. Under the deal, Miller will continue to create new comedy and drama projects for the studio. Miller’s relationship with Warner Bros. TV goes back to 2007, when he started his career as a writer and co-exec producer on NBC’s Chuck. His credits for the studio include Human Target, 666 Park Avenue, The 100 and Forever, as well as co-creating NBC’s Trial and Error alongside Jeff Astrof.

Miller’s new deal comes as Warners refused to deliver Lethal Weapon back to Fox with troubled star Clayne Crawford attached. The studio fired Crawford after multiple incidents of bad behavior on set and instead brought on Seann William Scott in a new role to star opposite Damon Wayans. Fox then officially renewed the procedural for a third season.

Miller is a key signing for Warners, which, in the era of vertical integration, faces an uphill battle to land series on outside networks as more broadcast, cable and streaming platforms want an ownership stake in their programming.

At Warners, Miller is part of a stable that also includes mega-producer Greg Berlanti, with the latter signing a new $400 million pact with the studio in June.
